Kathryn enjoys researching and preforming the Solo Cello repertoire of the past three hundred years, as well as music penned recently by today’s exciting contemporary composers. During the pandemic, Kathryn has been studying the 12 Fantasias by G. F. Telemann for viola da gamba and arranged by Yury. Kathryn’s cello is a contemporary instrument she commissioned from Master Luthier Anthony Lane. His instruments are known for their powerful, projecting sound. However, some acoustical settings may require additional sound support, particularly when performing for larger groups. Kathryn has a small amplifier and specialty microphone that can be used to boost the sound without distorting the sound characteristics. The mic can also be used with in-house sound systems.
Cello and Guitar Duo

Additionally, the Duo’s repertoire includes The Beatles, traditional Celtic and Irish and jazz standards. Most of the repertoire features Kathryn playing the melodies on cello, accompanied by Chris Pimentel or her husband, Carl Vast, either of whom handle the solos (improvisations).

These pieces are mostly Celtic in origin, but also include Swedish folk fiddling, Argentine tango and Eastern European folk-dances.
